Beijing, PRC - In line with the cultural diplomacy goals of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Sentro Rizal of the Philippines, the Philippine Embassy in Beijing participated in the 2021 ASEAN-Chair Fair which was held last 14 September 2021 within the premises of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretariat in Beijing, People's Republic of China (PRC). While observing local COVID-19 health protocols, dozens of guests from the local and diplomatic communities got a chance to witness cultural performances and to sample dishes from the Philippines, as well as other ASEAN Member States and China.
The Philippine Embassy showcased the Filipino national dish adobo (partnered with steamed rice) and a selection of traditional deserts, namely ube halaya, maja blanca and puto con queso at the Philippine Booth, which was decked with Igorot and Mindanaoan fabrics and posters of Filipino cultural scenes. At the opening ceremony, Philippine Embassy personnel delivered a live acoustic performance of a medley of Filipino songs, namely Dandansoy, Anak and Ang Pipit.
The ASEAN-China Centre is an intergovernmental organization established by ASEAN Member States and China in 2011. Its Secretariat is based in Beijing. The revised Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Establishing the ACC Between the Governments of the Member States of ASEAN and the Government of the PRC, which provides the ACC with its present mandate, was signed by the Foreign Ministers of ASEAN and China in Manila on 6 August 2017 during the Philippines' Chairmanship of ASEAN. The Embassies of ASEAN Member States in Beijing and the ACC Secretariat organize the ASEAN-China Fair every year in support of the ACC's role in promoting ASEAN-China cultural exchanges.
