Ambassador Sta. Romana welcomes Chinese investors to the Philippines

Beijing – “Economic cooperation continues to be the engine that propels our relations with China. China is a growing source of investments in our country. And we hope that, as Chinese enterprises go global, China will continue to be a source of larger investments for the Philippines in the years to come,” Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago L. Sta. Romana said as he encourages Chinese enterprises to invest in the Philippines during the Seminar on Philippines-China Production Capacity and Investment Cooperation on 18 April 2018 in Beijing.

In his remarks, Ambassador Sta. Romana highlighted that “our country continues to be one of the fastest-growing economies in Asia, and our macroeconomic fundamentals remain firm and stable” and noted the bright economic prospects of the Philippines made by the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.

Ambassador Sta. Romana further echoed President Duterte’s statements on the margins of the recently concluded Bo’ao Forum for Asia, saying “our President reiterated that the Philippines welcomes foreign investors as new partners in building our economy. He highlighted our continuing efforts to improve the climate of doing business, to promote ease of doing business and to show the goodwill and sincerity of the Philippines vis-à-vis China.”

Commercial Counselor Glenn Peñaranda of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Beijing presented an overview of the Philippine economy, highlighting the country’s economic performance in recent years. He encouraged Chinese enterprises to invest in the country’s priority sectors and provided a list of investment opportunities.

                                                 

Chairman Hu Weiping of China Overseas Development Association (CODA), Deputy Director Sun Yu of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) were present to grace the event. Over 150 Chinese enterprises from different sectors attended the Seminar.

To guide prospective Chinese investors, representatives of BDO Unibank, Inc., Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Ltd. (ICBC) and Zurich General Insurance Company (China) Ltd. introduced the services being offered to Chinese enterprises.

The Seminar on PH-China Production Capacity and Investment Cooperation was jointly organized by PTIC-Beijing, NDRC and CODA, and supported by Zurich General Insurance Company (China) Ltd., and ICBC. - END
