19 October 2017 - On 19 October 2017, the "Honed in Tradition: Philippine Weaves" exhibit officially opened for display at the School of Foreign Languages New Building of the Peking University. The exhibit will be showcased on 19 - 27 October 2017.

In her welcome remarks, Professor Li Shujing, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Language of Peking University, expressed appreciation for having the textile exhibited in the university. She added that through the exhibit, professors and students will have a better understanding of the interesting history and culture of the Philippines.

Ambassador Sta. Romana delivers his opening remarks

 

To officially open the exhibit, Ambassador Jose Santiago L. Sta. Romana gave a brief introduction of the Honed in Tradition: Philippine Weaves, noting that the exhibit is a joint effort of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. He said that through the display of various textiles and weaving techniques, the Embassy hopes to showcase the innate creativity of Filipinos and how they express their various belief systems, values and social structures.

Also present during the opening ceremony were Professor Wu Jiewei, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages; Dr. Shi Yang, Director of Philippine Studies Philippine Program; Dr. Huo Ran, faculty of Filipino Department, School of Asian and African Affairs Studies of the Beijing Foreign Studies University; and students taking up Philippine studies in PKU.

The event is part of the Embassy's efforts to bring the exhibit to various universities in Beijing. END.
