The Philippine Embassy in Beijing celebrated the 119th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the Filipino community on 11 June 2017 with the theme: "Kalayaan 2017: Pagbabagong Sama-samang Balikatin."

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Jose Santiago L. Sta. Romana conveyed President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's message highlighting the patriotism of the Filipino, and encouraging them to perform their civic rights and responsibilities.

The guests were treated to an afternoon filled with entertainment featuring song and dance performances by various Filipino groups, as well as a raffle draw that included free roundtrip airfare tickets from Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. Filipino and foreign guests alike enjoyed a traditional Filipino merienda.

The celebration was well attended with over 300 guests from Beijing and nearby provinces.
