Philippine Embassy in Beijing Attends the Opening Ceremony of the First ASEAN-China Youth Summer Camp

13 July 2016 – Embassy representatives attended the Opening Ceremony of the First ASEAN-China Youth Summer Camp held on 12 July 2016 at the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU).

A total of 31 students from ASEAN countries, as well as dialogue partners China, Japan and South Korea, are participating in the ten-day summer camp. The Philippines is represented by Maria Veronica Mercado Manalo from the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman and Ferdinand Alamo Tamulto from UP Baguio.

In his opening remarks, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Director for Education, Culture and Tourism Tri Purnajaya said the summer camp is being held as part of the activities celebrating the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and as a contribution to the 2016 ASEAN-China Educational Exchange Year. He expressed appreciation for the support received by ACC from ASEAN Embassies, and underscored the commitment of ACC to activities that enhance youth interaction and educational exchanges.

On behalf of ASEAN Embassies, Chargé d’ Affaires, a.i. Elizabeth T. Te noted in her speech that engaging all sectors of the community, most especially the youth, is key to deepening relations between ASEAN and its dialogue partners - China, Japan and South Korea. She expressed hope that through programs such as the summer camp, young people may gain greater understanding of each other’s cultures and deeper insights into the cooperation of ASEAN with its dialogue partners.

The 1st ASEAN-China Youth Summer Camp, organized by the ACC in partnership with the BLCU, China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), and Tianjin International Chinese College (TICC), is being held from 12 to 21 July 2016. END
