Chinese Young Cultural Ambassadors visit PHL Embassy in Beijing

            

18 May 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Beijing welcomed Chinese Young Ambassadors on 16 May 2016 under “Ni Hao, Philippines” program.

During the visit, the Embassy’s Second Secretary Irish Kay Kalaw-Ado made a presentation on the national symbols, sports and games, fiestas and festivals of the Philippines. The Embassy’s Cultural Officer, Ms. Joan T. Pichay, read a Filipino story on the “Origin of the Stars”. This was followed by playing of two Filipino games – Pitik – Bulag and Patintero.

In her opening remarks, the Embassy’s Minister and Consul General Elizabeth Te expressed that hope that through “Ni Hao, Philippines”, the Embassy will be able to introduce the Philippines to young Chinese children and pave the way for the enhanced understanding and lasting friendship among our Filipinos and Chinese. She stressed that understanding different cultures is an efficient means of breaking down barriers.

The Young Chinese Cultural Ambassadors, in turn, showcased aspects of Chinese culture, through brief demonstrations of Chinese Kung fu, dance, playing of a Chinese musical instrument and violin and presentation of gifts.

The Embassy presented each student with a book of Filipino stories in Chinese and a keychain as souvenirs.

“Ni Hao, Philippines” is an activity organized by the Embassy on a regular basis aimed at creating awareness of Philippine culture among children aged 7 – 12 years old. The Chinese Young Cultural Ambassadors is a group of primary and secondary students who visits embassies and cultural education institutions to learn the cultures of other countries. END.
