Philippine Ambassador to China H.E. Erlinda F. Basilio met corporate executives from the Shanghai Goodfarmer Banana Co., Ltd., led by General Manager Mr. Zhang Jingzhen, on 09 June 2015, prior to the Embassy’s reception to mark the 117th anniversary of Philippine independence and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-China diplomatic relations.
Goodfarmer provided ten (10) boxes of bananas and five (5) boxes of pineapples imported from the Philippines during the reception at the Four Seasons Hotel on 09 June 2015.
At the meeting, Goodfarmer briefed Ambassador Basilio on its operations in the Philippines since it opened its office in Davao City in January 2015, and on its target imports of Philippine bananas and pineapples. Mr. Zhang also informed the Ambassador that the company supplies Philippine bananas and pineapples to supermarket chains in China such as Carrefour, Tesco, Oushan, and Metro.
Ambassador Basilio expressed her appreciation to Goodfarmer for providing the bananas and pineapples for the reception and for the company’s efforts in promoting Philippine fresh fruits in China, which generates employment in the Philippines. She further encouraged them to explore other tropical fruits from the Philippines such as avocado and mango.
Goodfarmer Agricultural International Trade Co., Ltd (or Goodfarmer) was established in 2002, and has since expanded operations in the global supply-chain business of agricultural products. The export business of Goodfarmer includes manufacturing, processing, transportation, sales and marketing of agricultural products.
In 2011, the company expanded its business to include the importation of agricultural products from abroad, which led to the establishment of distribution centers in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.
