Benjamin Lim, a highly regarded member of the Beijing press corps and China Specialist Correspondent of Reuters, was chosen by Reuters as the 2011 Reporter of the Year.

The award is given out annually by Thomson Reuters, one of the world’s largest international media organizations.

Mr. Lim has been consistently behind news breakthroughs on China, Mr. Lim was selected for his string of major scoops in 2011, namely, (1) China’s decision to clean up US$ 1.710 trillion (Rmb 10 trillion) in local government debt; (2) the appointment of China’s new banking, securities and insurance regulators; (3) the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s military’s pledge of allegiance to Kim Jong-un; (4) China’s plan to build two indigenous aircraft carriers; and (5) China’s pledge to invest US$ 1.5 trillion in seven new strategic industries.     

This is the second time that Mr. Lim was given the Reuters’ global annual journalism award for his outstanding reportage. In 2007, he was awarded the Scoop of the Year for correctly predicting the line up of the Communist Party’s 17th nine-member, decision-making Politburo Standing Committee.   He was previously bureau chief of Reuters in Beijing and Taipei.
