5 March 2012 – The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou reported on the recently concluded National English Speech Competition which held last February 02 in Beijing, China where a 14 year-old Filipino studying in Guangzhou, China bagged the third place award.

Ms. Summer Gem Remo Genis, daughter of Mr. Esteb Genis and Mrs. Ma. Pamela Remo Genis who are both ESL teachers in Guangzhou, is a class 1 second year middle school student at Guangzhou Huamei International School, British Columbian-Canadian Program.  A scholar and a consistent top 10 student since she was in her first year in the said school, Susum, as she is fondly called by her friends, loves photography, reading classical English books, playing the guitar, singing, and listening to Korean and Japanese music.

The competition has three phases.  The Preliminary phase where Ms. Genis received a Pass with Merit award; the Provincial phase where she bagged the Grand Prize; and the National cycle held in Beijing, where she took home the third place.

The National English Speech Competition was organized by the Sino-British Exchange Center in Education Management and the University of Cambridge English-for-Speakers-of-other-Languages (ESOL) Examinations. END
