Philippines-China goodwill basketball games were held on 28 April 2012 in Beijing, in celebration of the 2012-2013 Philippines-China Years of Friendly Exchanges (YFE).

The men’s basketball team from the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) represented the Philippines and played with the senior high-school basketball team from Chinese High School Attached to Tsinghua University and the collegiate-level team of Capital University of Economics and Business, in their respective schools in Beijing.

The Goodwill Games were organized by the Embassy in cooperation with the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines and the office of Sen. Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, who also serves as the president of the Basketball Association of the Philippines.

During the welcome dinner hosted by Charge d’ Affaires Alex G. Chua of the Philippine Embassy in Beijing, he stated that the main goal of the participating teams was “not to win games, but to lyceumwin friends.”

While the cagers from both sides played to the best of their abilities, they did so in the spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and friendship.  Before and after the games, the basketball players and their coaches took the opportunity to exchange gifts and contact information, as well as take photos together.
