The Philippine Embassy in Beijing celebrated the 115th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence with a noontime reception at the Westin Beijing Chaoyang, by treating guests to a Philippine buffet and fresh Philippine mangoes flown in for the occasion.
In her welcome remarks, Ambassador Erlinda F. Basilio recognized the sacrifices of countless heroes of the Philippines until they achieved, “on that historic day on the twelfth of June 1898 the honor of being counted as one of the pioneers in Asia to become a member of the international community.” She stressed that “the Philippines is happy to join hands with the international community to attain an inclusive and sustainable growth that will benefit our people and our partners around the world.”
Attending the national day reception was Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin, who exchanged a friendship toast with Ambassador Basilio and who jointly cut the national day cake.
