The Philippine Embassy in Beijing, China hosted a screening event featuring the Filipino film "K'na, the Dreamweaver" on 17 November 2023 in collaboration with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

"K'na, the Dreamweaver" was written and directed by Ida Anita del Mundo. It was originally released in 2014 and has since earned critical acclaim both in the Philippines and on the international stage.

Set in the scenic Lake Sebu in Mindanao, the film unfolds the rich tapestry of T’boli indigenous culture. It follows the journey of K’Na, portrayed by Filipino actress Mara Lopez, as she navigates challenges in her dual role as a distinguished t'nalak weaver and princess of her clan amidst the complexities of an ancient tribal war.

The screening drew an audience consisting of members of the diplomatic corps and Chinese movie enthusiasts.

Minister and Consul General Dinno M. Oblena set the tone for the event with his opening remarks, highlighting the role of cinema in encouraging discussions about preserving cultural heritage and empowering the vulnerable sectors, such as women and children.

Director Del Mundo and Mara Lopez added a personal touch by delivering a joint message through video. They thanked the audience for demonstrating interest in their nearly 10-year old movie whose theme remains relevant.

Following the screening, attendees enjoyed a merienda reception, fostering cultural exchange and camaraderie.

The film was the Philippine Embassy’s entry to the 2023 Diversity and Inclusion Film Festival (DIFF), themed "Find Your Voice" and co-organized with 11 other foreign diplomatic missions in Beijing from 1 to 17 November 2023.

The activity likewise aligned with upcoming activities in support of this year's 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAWC). /END
