18 September 2023 BEIJING, CHINA– Philippine Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China H.E. Jaime A. FlorCruz welcomed the participants to the 16th Protocol of the Philippines-China Joint Commission Meeting on Science and Technology (16th JCMST) held in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Philippines on 18 September 2023.

Delivering his remarks through video recording from Beijing, Ambassador FlorCruz mentioned that the Philippines takes pleasure to host this year’s JCMST activities onsite in the Philippines following the productive engagements during the 15th JCMST in 2019 in Beijing, China.

“This is an important meeting because we will be discussing the progress of projects and programs being jointly implemented under the science and technology (S&T) cooperation between our two countries, as well as the upcoming plans and programs of our institutions,” Ambassador FlorCruz said in his speech.

Having personally witnessed how China in such a short time has catapulted its science and technology to world-class level, Ambassador FlorCruz stated that the Philippines wishes to learn from China’s rich experiences and best practices in the field of science and technology. "Through our various JCMST-led projects and programs, I hope we can continue sharing scientific knowledge and technological innovations," he remarked.

The 16th JCMST meeting discussed the implementation of projects under the Philippines-China Joint Research Programs and other cooperative schemes, including cooperation onjoint laboratory, technology transfer, alongside prospective projects fostering capacity building, people-to-people exchanges, and poverty alleviation.
