11 August 2022, Beijing – The Philippine Embassy in Beijing welcomed students from Shandong Province and celebrated 2023 Buwan ng Wika under its program “Ni Hao Philippines!”.
The delegation was composed of representatives and seventeen (17) high school students from Qingdao City, Shandong Province. The organizer, Wanbang Education and Technology Co, brings together students from various schools in Shandong, including primary school and junior high school, to visit foreign Embassies in Beijing to experience different country’s culture and traditions.
Ambassador Jaime A. FlorCruz delivered his remarks welcoming the students to the Embassy, followed by question-and-answer portion, and photo opportunity. The students were introduced to basic facts about the Philippines and its national symbols such as the national flag, national bird, and national sports.
To celebrate this year’s Buwan ng Wika or National Language Month this August, the students were also taught how to speak basic Filipinos words and phrases such as “Kumusta”, “Salamat”, and “Magandang araw”. The students participated enthusiastically at the speaking activity called Pass the Message, in which a Filipino phrase, was passed from person to person and then the original and final phrase are compared and pronounced properly.
Ni Hao Philippines is a flagship cultural program of the Embassy where Chinese students visit the Embassy and experience Philippine culture through presentations about the Philippines and various activities.
