National Volunteer Month 2016
Under Presidential Proclamation No. 55 issued on 5 December 1998, the month of December is designated as the National Volunteer Month (NVM) in the Philippines, in recognition of the important role of volunteerism in nation-building. The Filipino tradition of “Bayanihan”, wherein Filipinos help one another to promote the welfare of our families, communities and society, highlights the rich culture of volunteerism in the Philippines.
The theme of this year’s National Volunteer Month is “Volunteer for Sustainable and Inclusive Development: Isulong, Ibahagi, Iugnay, Isagawa!”, in support of the Philippine commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals [link: http://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/].
The Philippine Embassy encourages Filipino volunteers and volunteer groups to contribute their valuable assistance in the form of sharing their knowledge, skills, time, resources in the areas of technical assistance, social services, humanitarian support, and peace-building.
